Business context and AI Skills

Teach Vetta's AI your product, positioning and playbooks once, with business context files, AI Skills and workspace instructions, so every draft gets sharper.

Updated October 25, 2026 · 7 min read

Vetta's AI features (Ask Vetta, AI reply, AI agents in workflows, AI messages in sequences) all share one weakness out of the box: they know your CRM data, but not your business. Business context and AI Skills fix that. You describe your product, positioning, tone and playbooks once, and the AI uses them wherever you attach them.

There are three pieces, and each has its own job: business context files hold the facts about your business, AI Skills hold the procedures for Ask Vetta, and workspace instructions are a short standing brief for every Ask Vetta chat.

Business context files

Business context files are documents the AI reads while working: product one-pagers, positioning docs, pricing explanations, objection-handling guides, case studies.

You manage them in Settings → AI Business Context. Click New document to Create one in the editor, or Upload markdown file to bring in a document you already have. From the same list you can search by title, rename and delete documents.

Where they plug in:

  • AI reply in the inbox: the reply popover has a Business context (optional) section; click Add business context files, select files, and the drafted reply reflects your actual product and terminology instead of generic sales language
  • AI Agent workflow steps: attach files under Business context files with Add business context, so automated classification and drafting follow your definitions (for example, your real ICP criteria, not the AI's guess)
  • Sequences: the sequence's Business context is read when Vetta writes each AI message and when it drafts an answer to a reply. A single step can use a different selection, which then applies to that step only
  • Sequence AI replies: AI Reply Settings can also attach reply skill files, so drafted answers to campaign replies stay on-message. Drafts wait for a person to review and send them
  • Lead Scout agents: Attach business context gives the agent your positioning, and the scout judges every post and person it finds against it. See Setting up a Lead Scout agent

What makes a good context file: short, factual and specific. "We integrate with X, Y, Z. Pricing starts at $99/month. We never discount before a demo. Our differentiator vs. competitor A is B." The AI quotes and applies what's written: vague marketing copy in, vague drafts out.

Skill files for sequence messages

The rulebooks that tell sequence AI how to write (tone, structure, length, what never to claim) are business context documents too. An AI message skill file is attached to one AI variable, so a LinkedIn opener and a formal email can follow different rules in the same sequence. A reply skill file is attached to the reply agent. Both add to the sequence's business context rather than replacing it, so a skill file never needs to repeat what your company does. See Tuning messages with skill files.

⚠️

A document is shared by everything that uses it, so editing it changes every sequence, agent and workflow it is attached to. When a change is meant for one sequence only, create a second document instead. Messages Vetta has already written for a lead are not rewritten when you edit a file; regenerate them from the lead's preview.

AI Skills

AI Skills are named, reusable instruction sets for Ask Vetta and for AI assistants you connect through the MCP server. Open Settings → Ask Vetta, go to the Skills tab and click New Skill:

  • Skill name and description: what the skill is for
  • Instructions: the actual guidance, written in the Instructions Editor: how to qualify a lead, how to write a follow-up in your voice, how to structure a hand-off summary
  • API Name: the name used to reference the skill programmatically. It follows the skill name while Synchronize Label and API Name is on
  • Activate / Deactivate: control which skills are live without deleting them. Delete Skill removes one for good

Think of skills as the difference between telling a new hire what to do every single time, and giving them a playbook. Context files are the facts about your business; skills are the procedures for using them.

The Ask Vetta settings page

Settings → Ask Vetta (the page is titled AI) is the home for the AI layer behind Ask Vetta:

  • Overview: counts of your conversations, skills and tools, the MCP Server connection for ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants, and Workspace Instructions: custom instructions appended to every Ask Vetta prompt, such as "We are a B2B SaaS company. Always use formal language." Click Save instructions when you change them
  • Models: the AI models enabled for your workspace
  • Skills: the instruction sets described above
  • Tools: the capabilities Ask Vetta can use

Getting started: a practical setup

  1. Write three short context files in AI Business Context: What we sell (product, pricing, integrations), Who we sell to (ICP, personas, disqualifiers), How we sound (tone, phrases to use and avoid)
  2. Attach them to AI reply in the inbox, to your sequences and to any AI Agent workflow steps
  3. Create one skill for your most repeated Ask Vetta task: for example, "Qualification summary: given a person and company, produce fit (high/medium/low), reasoning and recommended next step"
  4. Iterate: when an AI draft misses the mark, the fix is usually one sentence added to a context file or skill, not a longer prompt every time
💡

Keep facts in one place. If your pricing appears in three files, the day it changes two of them will be wrong, and the AI will quote whichever one it reads.

Common questions

Where do I upload my product docs for the AI?

In Settings → AI Business Context. Click New document to Create one in the editor, or Upload markdown file to bring in a document you already have. See Business context files.

What's the difference between a business context file and an AI Skill?

Context files are the facts about your business; skills are the procedures for using them, written for Ask Vetta and connected AI assistants. See AI Skills.

How do I make AI reply use my business context?

In the reply popover, open Business context (optional), click Add business context files and select the files. The draft then reflects your product and terminology. See Business context files.

Why did editing one file change my other sequences?

A document is shared by everything that uses it, so an edit reaches every sequence, agent and workflow it's attached to. Create a second document when a change is meant for one sequence only. See Skill files for sequence messages.

I edited a context file, but the messages already written didn't change. Why?

Messages Vetta has already written for a lead aren't rewritten when you edit a file. Regenerate them from the lead's preview. See Skill files for sequence messages.

Where do I set instructions that apply to every Ask Vetta chat?

Under Workspace Instructions on the Overview tab of Settings → Ask Vetta, then click Save instructions. See The Ask Vetta settings page.

Can I turn a skill off without deleting it?

Yes. Use Deactivate to take it offline and Activate to bring it back; Delete Skill removes it for good. See AI Skills.

What should a context file contain?

Short, factual, specific statements: integrations, pricing, discount rules, your differentiator against a competitor. Vague marketing copy produces vague drafts. See Business context files.

Key outcome

Business context and skills turn Vetta's AI from a capable generic assistant into one that knows your product, your customers and your rules. It is the highest-leverage half hour of setup in the AI layer: write it once, attach it where the AI works, and every draft, classification and answer that reads it improves at once.
