Working with the agent's sequence

Every Lead Scout agent runs its own sequence in Vetta: how its flow is laid out, from the ICP check and lead insights to the AI-written messages, and how to edit a step safely.

Updated October 25, 2026 · 8 min read

Each agent has its own sequence: the steps every qualified lead goes through after Lead Scout finds them. It works like any standalone sequence, with a few steps that only agents have at the start. Open it from the agent's Sequence tab.

The agent's sequence and activating it1:25

Understanding and starting an agent's own sequence. On the Sequence tab, the top shows leads, senders, schedule and daily limits. Every lead enters at the entry, and the cutoff decides who continues by ICP fit and signal score; both default to one, so everyone passes. Leads found by signals were already scored, while uploaded leads go through the ICP checker, also one by default. Click Activate and choose Lead Scout, the Sequence, or both. It starts right away.

Transcript

Every agent comes with its own sequence, on the Sequence tab. It's a simpler view of a sequence on the canvas, and you can convert it there when you want more control. At the top: its leads, senders, schedule and daily limits. Every lead starts at the entry. The cutoff decides who moves forward, by ICP fit and signal score. By default both are set to one, so everyone gets through. Click it to raise the bar: at a signal score of three, leads that are only active or hiring are dropped. Next, the sequence asks where each lead came from. Leads found by the agent's signals were scored when they were captured, so they go straight on. Leads you upload take the other path, through the ICP checker. Its threshold is also one by default, so it keeps everyone until you raise it. Then come the regular steps: lead insights, emails and conditions. When it's ready, click Activate, and choose Lead Scout, the Sequence, or both. There's no extra confirmation: it starts right away. Before every launch, Nina asks Claude to check her agent's sequence. Claude reads five steps and finds one missing sender. Claude, ChatGPT or any assistant you connect to Vetta works on your real workspace, so check every agent this way, then give it a bigger job. In Vetta, attach the mailbox, then activate it yourself.

The summary bar

The top of the tab sums up the sequence at a glance: how many Leads are in it, the Senders it uses (click to manage them), the Schedule with whether it is sending right now, and the Daily limits per channel. The buttons on the right open the sequence on its own, refresh the numbers, and open its settings.

The daily limits are not set here. They come from Global Sending Limits, which apply to the whole workspace and count per connected account, so adding senders raises what the sequence can send in a day. See Creating your first sequence.

How the flow is laid out

The flow reads top to bottom, one card per step:

  1. Entry: "A record is created and added to this agent". The chips show what happens on the way in: the lead's stage moves to Sequencing, and the cutoff (for example "moves forward at ICP ≥ 3 or Signal ≥ 3") decides who carries on. Leads below it move to ICP filtered out: they are not contacted, and not deleted either, so you can see who was held back.
  2. Where did this lead come from?: a condition that splits leads in two paths and then rejoins them.
    • Path A, Leads coming from Signals: these were already scored when Lead Scout captured them, so there is no extra check.
    • Path B, Leads uploaded by User: the ICP evaluator scores every lead you add yourself (from a list, a CSV, the CRM or Sales Navigator) against your ICP first. Run ICP evaluation drops anything below the score, Run basic enrichment first fetches the lead's profile and company details so the check has something to read, and Find the LinkedIn URL first looks up a missing profile so the lead is judged on its real profile.
  3. Gather lead insights (Used for hyper-personalization): enriches the lead with what is public on LinkedIn. Pick any of Get basic details, Get work history, Get post history and Get reactions and comments. What it gathers is what the AI can draw on when it writes. Each option shows its credit cost.
  4. The message steps: emails, LinkedIn messages and conditions, numbered in order. Each card shows its timing, the stage the lead moves to once it goes out, and live numbers: leads in and out, done, active, stopped, sent and opened.

Message steps written by AI carry a small AI badge on their edit button. An email step with Auto-enrich on finds a missing work email right before it sends; if none is found, the step is skipped or stops with an error you can retry, depending on the sequence's settings.

Setting the cutoff and the ICP score

Click the cutoff on the entry card to open Qualification cutoff. Set a Minimum ICP score and a Minimum signal score, and under Require choose Both scores or Either score. Each notch says in plain words what it drops.

By default both are set to 1, so everyone gets through. A score of 2 also keeps everyone, because Lead Scout never scores below 2; 3 is the first notch that drops anyone. A signal score of 3, for example, drops leads who only fit your ICP and are active or hiring, and have said nothing.

The ICP evaluator on Path B has its own ICP drop threshold (Keep at or above ICP score), also 1 by default. Set it to 2 to drop uploaded leads that do not match your ICP: the wrong role or seniority, the wrong industry, or someone your exclusions caught. When you change either score, Vetta offers to re-run the leads it filtered out earlier that now reach it. The re-run uses no credits, and leads that already passed are not affected.

When a lead replies

A reply stops that lead's sequence and creates a task for you. Vetta reads the reply and moves the lead to the matching stage: Replied Positive (interested), Info Requested (asking for pricing, details, a deck or a demo), Neutral Reply (not now, or the wrong person), Replied Negative (not interested, or unsubscribed) or Out of Office.

With Draft a reply with AI on, Vetta also writes a draft reply from your business context. It is only a draft: you review it in the inbox and send it yourself. Nothing is sent automatically. To keep nurturing people who replied, add them to a new sequence.

Switching the sequence on

An agent's sequence starts as a draft, and until you build it, it may have no message steps or senders. Before it can go live it needs at least one message step and a sending account for each channel it uses. Then click Activate in the agent's header and pick Sequence (or Lead Scout and the Sequence). It starts right away.

Editing a message step

While the sequence is active its steps are read-only, so pause it before you change anything:

  1. Click Deactivate in the agent's header and pick Sequence. Lead Scout keeps finding leads; nothing is sent.
  2. Click the edit button on the step. The step editor opens with its sender, subject and body, as in any sequence (see Configuring communication steps).
  3. In an AI step, the subject and body are AI variable chips such as AI · first_email_body. The green AI message on button in the toolbar opens the sequence's AI Message Settings, where those variables are written: see Setting up AI variables.
  4. When you are done, Activate the sequence again.

Once the sequence has run, you can change any step's details and add new steps at the end, but you cannot delete or reorder the steps that are already there. Leads are partway through those steps, and changing them under their feet could send someone the same message twice and put your sender reputation at risk.

When you switch it back on, leads who have not reached an edited step get the new version, anyone who already received it keeps the old one, and new leads get the new version. Leads who had finished the sequence carry on if you added steps after their last one.

⚠️

AI messages are written just before each lead's first send and then kept. Changing a prompt or a skill file only affects leads whose messages have not been written yet. For leads that already have messages, open them in the preview and regenerate or edit the steps that have not been sent: see Previewing and regenerating messages.

Common questions

Why can't I edit the steps of my agent's sequence?

While the sequence is active its steps are read-only. Click Deactivate in the agent's header and pick Sequence: Lead Scout keeps finding leads and nothing is sent while you edit, then Activate the sequence again. See Editing a message step.

Why can't I delete or reorder a step?

Once the sequence has run, leads are partway through its steps, and changing them under their feet could send someone the same message twice. You can still change any step's details and add new steps at the end. See Editing a message step.

What happens to leads already in the sequence when I edit a step?

Leads who have not reached the edited step get the new version, anyone who already received it keeps the old one, and new leads get the new version. Leads who had finished carry on only if you added steps after their last one. See Editing a message step.

Where are the daily limits for my agent set?

Not in the agent. They come from Global Sending Limits, which apply to the whole workspace and count per connected account, so adding senders raises what the sequence can send in a day. See The summary bar.

Why does a lead show "ICP filtered out"?

Its scores fell below the cutoff on the entry card, so it is not contacted. It is not deleted either, so you can see who was held back. See How the flow is laid out.

I set the cutoff to 2 and nobody was dropped. Why?

Lead Scout never scores below 2, so a cutoff of 2 keeps everyone, like the default of 1. A score of 3 is the first notch that drops anyone. See Setting the cutoff and the ICP score.

Does changing a prompt or skill file update messages that are already written?

No. AI messages are written just before each lead's first send and then kept, so a change only reaches leads whose messages have not been written yet. For the others, open them in the preview and regenerate. See Previewing and regenerating messages.

What happens when a lead replies?

The reply stops that lead's sequence, creates a task for you and moves the lead to the matching stage. With Draft a reply with AI on, Vetta also writes a draft that you review and send yourself; nothing is sent automatically. See When a lead replies.

Key outcome

The agent's sequence is where qualified leads become conversations. The steps before the first message decide who gets one and what the AI knows about them; the message steps decide what they read. Keep both in view when you tune an agent.
